Diipa Khosla: Career

Diipa Büller-Khosla is redefining the meaning of ‘social media influencer’. Preferring the term ‘new-age digital celebrity,’ Diipa is breaking barriers across multiple industries with a singular mission of empowering women. She’s not only one of the first Indian influencers to have gained international notoriety with a following of more than 1.4 million — she is also taking her clout and platform and transforming it into a beacon for social good.

Diipa left India at 18 years old and moved to Amsterdam to study international human rights law and later moved to London to pursue her Master’s degree. She interned at both the United Nations’ International Criminal Court and IMA Influencer Agency, which introduced her to digital and social media. She also pursued an internship at IMA during the four-month break between her studies at university and landing a job as a professional lawyer. With a love of fashion and beauty never waning, Diipa has been featured on seven international magazine covers, walked at the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals, and has been an ambassador for brands like Estée Lauder and Kérastase.

But her real passion lies in social change. Her non-profit, Post for Change, harnesses the power of social media to actively address and challenge important social and global issues — particularly related to the UN Sustainable Development Goal on Gender Equality. Diipa has been recognized as Inflow’s ‘The Changemaker Influencer of 2019’ and four ‘Influencer of the Year’ awards.

Diipa’s newest endeavor is inspired by her mother’s work as an Ayurvedic doctor and her own personal decade-long journey battling acne. She’s transforming the skincare industry with the launch of indē wild, a conscious beauty ecosystem combining Ayurvedic rituals with revolutionary science-backed chemistry into Ayurvedistry™. Backed by an all-female board of knowledgeable hair and skincare experts, this people-powered brand stands for representation, education, and radical transparency.

Diipa lives in Amsterdam with her husband and co-founder of Post for Change, Oleg Büller-Khosla, and their daughter, Dua.

He currently works for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Oleg was in his final year of school when Diipa was just beginning her studies at the university. Five years later, he sent a romantic invitation to her. Both of them ended up falling in love with one another and being married on September 24 in Udaipur.

Diipa Khosla Parents

Her father, Virje Bahai Khosla, currently holds the position of president at the European Forum for Ayurveda and Yoga. Sangitha Khosla is the name of the woman who gave birth to her. Nan Khosla is the name of one of Diipa’s sisters, while Geet Khosla is the name of one of Diipa’s brothers.

Without a doubt, my own mother! Despite her advanced years, she has retained her youthful charm and radiance. Her hair is without a doubt the most stunning I’ve ever seen, and I admire the holistic and all-natural approach she takes to her beauty routine. She has always been kind, supportive, and loving to everyone around her, and that is exactly the kind of role model I need in my life to get through this thing called life. Amal Clooney is one of my fashion inspirations.

I’m all about the natural, no-makeup appearance, so I go for tinted moisturizer or a light foundation; the tinted moisturizer from IT Cosmetics is a must-have in my luggage. I’m all about the natural, no-makeup style. I like to put a little bit of color on my cheeks and eyes, and I usually use something from the brand Nudestix. In addition to that, I use a liquid highlighter on my cheeks and nose, a thin coat of mascara, neutral-toned lipstick, and brow definer. In terms of my skincare routine, I start out by washing my face with a cleanser from Kiehl’s, and then I apply either the Embryolisse cream or a retinol cream after that. Kérastase is my go-to brand when it comes to hair maintenance, and I often wear my hair curled.

Facts/Trivia

  • While she was in school and college, she faced huge criticism for her dark skin tone. In an interview, while talking about facing racism and sexism, she said,
  • I have faced these issues my entire life. In 2016, I was rejected by a PR firm to attend a London Fashion Week show and another influencer, who was caucasian with fewer followers, was allowed. The only difference being our skintones! But I used the negativity as fuel to push myself harder. Every time I faced a sexism issue, I would think: one day I will be your CEO and then men will know what sexism is.”
  • But when I went to the West, I started to realise my uniqueness lay in being different and what makes me unique is my identity, my culture and my beautiful skin tone. I started owning it and wearing my Indianness like a gold medal and that gave me confidence. For instance, I stopped wondering how I would ever be in the front row at the Milan Fashion Week, and just went for the challenge. Soon I was not only sitting in the front row but also playing muse to the same design brand that at one time had issues with my colour.”
  • Her parents have supported her in every thick and thin of her life. In an interview, while talking about her parents, she said,
  • When my parents saw I was doing things bigger than myself, they were proud. At the TED Talk in Amritsar, they were in the audience and smiled when I spoke. Later, after taking selfies with young girls, when I asked my mother why she’d been smiling so much she said, ‘You know the little girl who was taking selfies with you? You were like that 10 years ago.’ And that is so true.”
  • She started her self titled YouTube channel in 2018 on which she has uploaded videos related to makeup and her wedding series.
  • In 2018, she became the first Indian to collaborate with MAC Cosmetics on a collection that is inspired by her wedding look.
