Gullak: Plot

There are web shows that grow on you while others hit you like a chord right away. Gullak of TVF is capable of doing both.

The story begins by inviting you into the house and environment of a family living in a small town who are coping with the vicissitudes of life. At the same time, it provides sleights that almost immediately elicit empathy.

The very charming SonyLIV programme may not be quite as perfectly tuned to sweep you off your feet as the first and second seasons were, but it does have enough steam to allow it to chug along nicely in its third season.

This time around, the script isn’t up to the usual immaculate standard, but the performance is, as always, absolutely stellar.

The earthen object that functions as an omniscient observer-narrator and provides the comedic series with its name says that a gullak is not the same thing as a piggybank.

Additionally, it sheds light on the predicament of the Mishra family, for whom the muddle is never resolved. The former is constructed of mitti, while the latter is made of plastic, the voice explains, with the intention of highlighting the fact that nothing in this area is anything other than anchored in the soil.

The third season of Gullak, which consists of five episodes and was conceived by Sreyansh Pandey and produced by Arunabh Kumar, is, in fact, firmly anchored to the bylanes that are located surrounding the home of the obstinate Mishra family.

Its hold, on the other hand, isn’t quite as strong as it was in the first two batches of episodes revolving around these superheroes of suffering (“dukh ke superheroes,” the all-knowing gullak, voiced by Shivankit Singh Parihar, intones).

It’s not that the show’s sporadic low points tarnish its overall quality beyond repair.

Because of the unwaveringly natural performances that the four main actors, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Jameel Khan, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Harsh Mayar, give throughout Gullak Season 3, some portions of the show are not only highly fun but also very easy to relate to.

Every one of them is performing at an extremely high level, which, as expected, infuses the whole thing with an entrancingly vibrant energy.

The combination of Durgesh Singh’s script and Palash Vaswani’s masterful direction ensures that the show contains a never-ending supply of witty asides and straightforward advice.

The warmth of the atmosphere and the jovial conversation between husband and wife, parents and children, and the two Mishra brothers who couldn’t be more different pays off in the manner in which one would anticipate it would. However, after everything is said and done, the gullak is only about half full.

Gullak: Review

That should not come as much of a surprise. The work that came before has established an intimidatingly high standard.

The novelty of the premise has worn off just a little bit due to overexposure, so the new season is a little hard-pressed to maintain the realistic spirit of the show while conjuring up a mix of genteel entertainment and tongue-in-cheek commentary on the unremarkable but jagged lives of people that have to inevitably bank on their own devices in the face of the hurdles strewn across the social terrain that they occupy.

The breadth of topics is explored in Gullak Season 3’s five individual episodes, which make up the season’s self-contained whole.

Aman Mishra (Harsh Mayar), the top student in his class, wrestles with the question of whether he should major in science or the arts even as he mulls over the possibility of attending a more prestigious school than the one that his father is able to pay for him to attend.
