Life Story of Meechy Darko

All three members were born and raised in the Flatbush neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York City, where they had been friends since elementary school. The Darko brothers, Erick and Meechy, have Jamaican ancestry. In the beginning, Demetri Simms (Meechy Darko), Antonio Lewis (Zombie Juice), and Erick Elliott (The Architect) were close friends through their shared love of the anime series Dragon Ball Z and professional wrestling. They started using psychedelic substances like psilocybin mushrooms and LSD while they were teenagers and experimented with these substances.

Zombie Juice and another native of Flatbush named Issa Gold of the Underachievers started specifically investigating into the indigo lifestyle. Erick did not join in this endeavour. According to Meechy Darko, the very first time he consumed psilocybin mushrooms, he experienced something akin to a rebirth of consciousness and went through the process of having his ego die.

Mixtapes and the exponential growth of their popularity (2010–2013)

Around that time (2010), Erick Arc Elliott, who had previously been working on his own solo material, made the decision to bring the band back together musically.

In the year 2012, they played for the first time in a club for the first time at 307 in Waterloo.

After uploading the video for the song “Thug Waffle” to YouTube, the band saw an increase in their fan base.

Towards the end of the year, Flatbush Zombies distributed their first mixtape under the moniker D.R.U.G.S., which is an acronym that stands for “Death and Reincarnation Under God’s Supervision.” In 2012, Flatbush Zombies collaborated with RZA of Wu Tang Clan to record the song “Just Blowin’ in the Wind,” which was used as part of the soundtrack for RZA’s film “The Man with the Iron Fists.”

On the single “No Religion,” which was released in 2013, the band worked along with another rap group from Brooklyn called the Underachievers.

Flatbush Zombies published a video on YouTube on July 29, 2013, announcing the release of their second mixtape, titled BetterOffDEAD, which was made available to the public on September 11, 2013, at 9:11 PM. The mixtape titled BetterOffDEAD features a total of nineteen tracks, three of which are previously released singles: “MRAZ,” “Palm Trees,” and “222.”

Despite the fact that Elliott is the mixtape’s primary producer, Harry Fraud and Obey City both contribute to the mixtape’s production. On the tracks “Drug Parade” and “Club Soda,” respectively, guest appearances are made by Danny Brown and Action Bronson.

The mixtape received a lot of positive feedback from critics. It would wind up being placed at number 17 on XXL’s list of the best mixtapes of 2013, which was compiled for the year 2013.  The video game NBA Live 15 includes a reworked version of the song “My Team Supreme” that featured Bodega Bamz. A tune off of the group’s mixtape titled “BetterOffDEAD,” “MRAZ” also has a music video that was made by Flatbush Zombies.
