When is ‘The Rings of Power’ set?
Amazon Prime Videos made the announcement prior to the start of production on the series that the prequel would take place in the Middle Earth during the Second Age. Those who are familiar with the series will be aware that this took place a thousand years or more before the events of the genuine “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. A significant number of the series’ regular cast members will also be absent due to the fact that it is set in the past.
Galadriel will be one of the more prominent faces, but Elrond, the key elf figure, will also occupy some screentime. Galadriel will be one of the more prominent faces. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Showrunner Patrick McKay provided some hints about what fans might anticipate “Rings were created for the elves, rings were created for the dwarves, rings were created for the mankind, and then there was the one ring that Sauron used to trick them all. It tells the tale of how all of those powers came into being, where they originated, and what each of those powers did to the various races.”
The official synopsis helps put things into context for the reader, “The illustrious tales of Middle-history earth’s during the mythical Second Age will soon be brought to the big and small screens for the very first time by a new series produced by Amazon Studios. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” and it will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory, and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, and hope hung by the finest of threads. Additionally, the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all of the world in darkness.”
“The first episode of the series takes place during a period of relative calm, and the subsequent episodes focus on an ensemble cast of individuals, some of whom are already established while others are introduced specifically for this purpose. These kingdoms and characters will leave legacies that will continue to exist long after they are no longer around. These legacies will be carved out in the depths of the Misty Mountains, in the magnificent forests of the elf capital of Lindon, in the breathtaking island kingdom of Nmenor, and in the farthest reaches of the map.”
On September 1, 2022, the first episode of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will debut on Amazon Prime Video.
